...for a reason.

Many think that they can judge whether a situation is safe enough to risk street racing; they are wrong. They think they have the maturity it takes to give up mid-race if the situation suddenly becomes dangerous; they are usually wrong.

I once read a story that stopped street racing for me forever. A guy in an online community I was in said that the night before, he had stopped at a red light next to a souped-up car, had looked at the driver, and knew that it was on. When the light turned green, they both floored it, and off they were. Towards the end of the block, the other driver lost control of his car, and slammed into a light pole.

The guy telling the story turned around to check on him, and saw him getting out of his car. The airbag had deployed and saved his life. The guy opened the door to the backseat, though; the child in the backseat hadn't been so lucky.

Because of OTHER people's inability to race safely, was why this guy stopped. I can think of many, many other reasons, but this story got to me.

This is such a sad story, and illustrates just why these laws are in place. Racing should happen on closed tracks or courses and in vehicles equipped for the safety of the drivers, and under the supervision of a safety team with medical assistance available if needed.

Oh my god! What is wrong with people to be racing with their children in their car? I hope that this man was charged with murder! Street racing is illegal and endangering the welfare of a child is even worse! Sick!

That was a sad story. People forget that racing is a thing meant to be done under proper surveillance and all the necessary safety measures. And not by amateur drivers who want some adrenalin kick and thrill.

I hate street racing and guys who do that. It is strictly illegal. The government and cops should take strict action against this drastic action of killer guys.

Sad story bro! All drivers should be responsible for their passengers and should be diligent enough to follow the rules.

Why did the guy got involved in street racing when he had a child passenger? Is it because he had such a nice car that he was confident enough of their safety?

Wow, this is just horrible. Laws about street racing are put in place for a reason and they protect everybody. Racing is awesome when it's done under the right conditions, where it is supervised and there are few chances for people to get hurt. Racing on open streets is just asking for disaster.

That is really sad, I live next to a freeway and about 2 or 3 AM on weekends people get out there and street race. The cops sometimes try to stop them, but ignore it for the most part because often the street racers will run for it anyway. It makes no sense because we have a paid race track in the city they could go race at.
